what is threat management?

Threat management is a challenge for any organisation. Threat management and threat assessment of workplace violence offers a strategy that moves away from the prediction of danger to the identification and handling of risk.

A threat may be:

  • direct
  • indirekt
  • written
  • spoken
  • gestured

The following box illustrates the underlying problems when dealing with threats:

  • Some people who make threats ultimately pose a threat.
  • Many people who make threats do not pose a threat.
  • Some people who pose a threat never make threats.

The best approoach to manage a crisis is to prevent the crisis.

Threat Management also offers training for  management and staff in risk management, understanding and recognizing threats and how to reat on them. It also includes training in the handling of any resulting crisis in the organzation. Nearly half of all organizations have experienced a high-level crisis in the last few years due to threats and workplace violence.
